Stone Bench, St Paul’s
National Design Competition, 2012: Winner
Stone Bench was the winning entry in a nationwide competition to design a new sculptural installation in London, to give new life to a public area opposite St Paul’s Cathedral.
Stone Bench consists of ten, hand and machine carved Grove Whitbed, Portland Stone blocks, which continuously increase in size, which aimed to allow variable seating conditions for people of all ages. The build project has created a new public space for Cheapside Central London, and yet allows the busy public traffic of the area to continue unaffected.
