Mapesbury Extension

Mapesbury Extension, North West London

Refurbishment and extension, 2022

This project was to refurbish and extend a Victorian brickwork house, located in the Conservation Area of Mapesbury.

The existing rear facade would be altered, removing poor quality additions from the 1990s, reinstating a brickwork rear facade that respects the materials and volumes of the houses of the Conservation Area. A simple, single storey new volume is introduced, with a large kitchen space opening on to the garden.

The project consisted of various studies, which responded to a series of productive meetings with the conservation officers and local interest groups, in order to propose an extension that was suitable for the area, but not pastiche or a reproduction of what is already there.
