Lantern House, South East London
Refurbishment and extension, 2023
Lantern House is a project to refurbish and extend a brickwork Victorian home in Crystal Palace, South East London. The project looks to reconfigure the interiors of this property from 1899, whilst adding a new dining space, opening out onto the garden.
An existing conservatory is removed, with a new addition to the rear facade introduced, which looks to bring a language of clay brickwork and render, inspired by the brick architecture of the street. New minimal sliding doors are introduced, to open the dining space out to the garden. Internally, an exposed lightweight timber construction roof houses a large rooflight, providing much needed light for the deep plan of the house.
Early physical concept models in card and paper, help to explore the form and quality of light within the new intervention.
